Companion Synods
The Nebraska Synod ELCA along with the Nebraska Synodical Women's Organization are currently building relationships with two companion synod churches – the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Argentina and Uruguay (IELU) and the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) along with the partner church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
The Nebraska Synod schedules vision trips at various times to our companion synods and partner churches. A "Vision Trip" is different from a "Mission Trip." We will not step off the plane and set about building a church or a school. We go to learn from our brothers and sisters in Christ, to pray and worship with them, and to bring encouragement, support, and love. We will learn to walk in their shoes experiencing the hardships and joys that come with that walk.
This model of accompaniment is one in which we will be seeing what the Lutheran Church is accomplishing in each country. Several times NSWO has been included in the Vision Trips and made arrangements to visit various women’s organizations in each country; they have even participated in a Conference held for the women of that country.
If interested in being a part of a Vision Trip, additional information can be found on the Nebraska Synod ELCA website or by contacting NSWO Companion Synods-Global Missions Coordinator Sandy Terry by e-mail.
